During a two month study abroad to Rome, including stops across Spain, Italy, and Germany, we were tasked with designing an improvement to a piazza of our choice. I chose the quaint Piazza di S Edigio, visiting and observing the piazza daily throughout the duration of the trip. Studying the ebb and flow of people through the piazza throughout the day allowed me to better understand the connection between visitors and the space. Using the philosophy of Heidegger and Deleuze as inspiration, I created iterations of simple designs intended to improve this specific piazza. The designs all attempted to create a more holistic piazza while integrating into the established flow of pedestrians and protect the tucked away space from the larger thoroughfares.
